Love Your Enemies

Gosh this can be so incredibly hard sometimes! Luckily my parents always encouraged me to live like this but for some people it must be a really hard concept to grasp. Loving someone you hate. Loving someone who treats you like crap. It doesn’t make sense!

But after all the disrespect we’ve given God, Jesus still died for us and that doesn’t make sense either. He gave his life for those very people who were nailing him to that cross. He also did it for you and me. I suppose once we look at it on a more personal level we begin to realise that if God did that for us; actually die even though we didn’t deserve it, then we can love someone who’s mean to us.

Sometimes it can be hard, especially when they hurt you. Sometimes it might even be the people close to you that break your heart, who eventually become ‘enemies’ in a sense. When you feel so despised, rejected, worthless, annoyed, frustrated or angry just remember what Jesus went through.

Here’s a sweet passage from The Bible, (NIV)

Love Your Enemies:

Matthew Chapter 5… 43“You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
